Building Our Dream

After 30 years of activity in the Krayot region (neighbourhoods north of Haifa), we were granted authorization to build our own community building, to be constructed as a second floor of the current Music Conservatory building in Kiryat Bialik- the only place that was available. The main idea is to have a community space that besides a synagogue will contain offices and classrooms to support the community.  The whole project was developed by the building committee; assembled from volunteer members of the congregation, professionals in the field of building and construction. Our project is based on an original idea of the architect Ricardo Elias from Guadalajara, Mexico. We see our new home as representative of our principles, and is a place which serves the community according to them. In our vision this will be a place which represents Pluralistic and Equal People Loving Judaic values:

  • Respect for men and women.
  • Judaic values working for a just and proper society.
  • Reaching the community and encouraging a spiritual experience.
  • Judaism which enables a joint family experience.
 The new building will serve the diverse needs of our community. It will include:
    • a synagogue sanctuary with a capacity of 300 seats;
    • a gallery with a multi-purpose hall;
    •  a small chapel for a daily minyan;
    •  a classroom for different activities;
    •  a kitchen;
    •  offices for the rabbi, the secretary and the administrative staff.

Based on the diverse activities we already offer, we believe that after the building is built, our activities will grow and evolve. A quick look at the Krayot region (the five neighboring towns of Kiryat Yam, Kiryat Haim, Kiryat Motzkin, Kiryat Ata and Kiryat Bialik) shows that there are around 150 synagogues. Nevertheless, our synagogue is one of a kind due to two unique qualities. First, it is the only non-orthodox synagogue in the area. Second, it offers numerous community activities and services for congregation members as well as for all the residents of the above mentioned towns. Building a community such as ours in Israel is a challenge. Through our egalitarian and pluralistic approach, we hope to bring the secular population closer to Judaism and the love our traditions.
